Living the Dream

We've spent 3 great days visiting with family.  Lots of memories shared and new ones made.  We're so happy we made this trip -- and hope to get the rest of the Stockweather family out to visit too.  The best part if the trip has been watching my hubbies face light up as he hears stories about his dad and grandma.  Share stories with your families -- it's the greatest gift you can give.

The drive to Lake George was beautiful.  NYC comes to mind when you think if NY - hustling and bustling cities.  But NY is so much more -- it's full of quaint little town that look like postcard pictures from days gone by.  There are lots of lakes, trees, hills and mountains.  On our way here, we drove some 2 lane highways that winded and rolled and up and down hills past vineyards and apple orchards.  We stayed with family in 2 of the postcard worthy towns - Mendon and Skaneateles.

We arrived at Lake George last night. It's nestled in the Adirondak mountains.  Check out the views from our second story condo at the lodge - breathtaking.  It's such a treat to be greeted by mountains and the sun shining off the lake when waking up.  I've got my coffee in hand and the fireplace on this chilly morning.

We're taking a river ride today on the Mohican, an old paddleboat.  Some of Eric's family is coming up to visit.  We'll look for Cleverdale - the site where his grandma's cabin used to stand.  This is where he spent summers as a kid.  Lucky guy!! Looking forward to seeing his family and hearing stories.

Time to turn off the electronic devices and enjoy our view :)

The Journey

“The most important reason for going from one place to another is to see what's in between, and they took great pleasure in doing just that.”
― Norton Juster, The Phantom Booth

One of my favorite quotes!  We're hoping to see a little more in between on today's drive.  I-80 to Cleveland on a dark rainy night wasn't very exciting.  Cleveland, on the other hand, is nicer than I expected.  I wish we had a little more time to explore downtown - great architecture.  Even the hotel was a nice surprise.  Love the 2 old buildings with shops in between.

Heading to Mendon, NY today to see Aunt Sue and Uncle Mike.  Looking forward to it!

Coming soon - Northeast a la mode!

New York and Vermont - here we come!

Colorful fall leaves, apple cider, wineries, mountains, cozy fires, lakes and lodges....now that's a fall   vacation!! And, it's gets even better...Eric has lots of family in New York.  We're looking forward to catching up with aunts, uncles and cousins.

Follow along with us as we make our way thru western and upstate New York, Lake George, Albany, and Stowe, Vermont.  Wondering how we came up with that route?  Well, it started with family - catching up and making new memories.  Then, we added in some time at Lake George - a place that brings back great memories of his grandma for Eric. Then, we capped it off with a side trip to Vermont.  We landed on Stowe because it is close to the Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory.  A vacation is a vacation without a little ice cream!!  And, Ben & Jerry's is IT when it comes to ice cream.  Everything is better topped with ice cream - even vacations!
