Postcards from Montreal - Day 3

Yesterday was a laid back day.  We didn't have any formal plans.  We explored.

In the morning, we walked along the Saint Lawrence River.  It was fricken' freezing cold out but we toughed it out.  The sun helped.  We walked to the locks.  Very cool.

Next up was a stop to the training center where Eric is taking classes.  He showed me around.  The most impressive things are the simulators the pilots use.  One was in use while we were there.  Very interesting to watch from the outside.  It was simulating a takeoff - wavering side to side a little as it made its climb.

Afterwards, we moved hotels.  We are in the heart of the city now - nestled between Old Town and the newer parts of Montreal.  Our view from the 23rd floor overlooks the city, the river and St. Helene island.  The island was built from the dirt deposited when the metro tunnels were built.  It houses a very cool building called "Habitat 67."  It was built for the 1967 World's Fair as a futuristic concrete cube type living in crowded cities.

We explored a lot of the city by car and on foot yesterday.  Old town has a very European feel and dates back to the 17th century.  Lots of shops, restaurants, etc. along the small cobblestones streets. I love all the old cathedrals!   Check out the pics of Notre Dame Cathedral (where Celine Dion got married).  The pictures don't do it justice.  It's breathtaking!

Last nights' dinner was at a charming wine bar/ restaurant that had lives Blues music.  Very relaxing :)   I was thrilled that the waitress had to ask which language to speak last night.  My "Bon soir"  was spot on last night.

It's a good thing we are walking so much to help counteract all the wonderful foods.  Montreal is foodie heaven!
